Spirit of Costa Rica
Many know of Costa Rica’s natural beauty, warm oceans, abundant wildlife and exotic birds, but the history and culture of this country dates back thousands of years. The vibrancy of Costa Rican life is richly expressed through food, dance, art and the land, with influences from Mayan culture, North and South America, Spain, and beyond.

The Package Details

  • Daily Spanish lessons (2 hours a day)
Nosara Spanish Institute is the premier Spanish language school in the region. You will be placed in a learning environment based on your current level of the language. In addition to your daily classes, we feel it is essential for you to go out and practice your skills in the local environment so we will be integrating the Spanish language in all of your activities to reinforce what you are learning. We will also have a “field trip” day to a local market so you can get some practice and really get involved with the locals!
  • Salsa Dance classes (3 days – 1 hour each)
Learn the Latin language of love and dance, the Salsa, with the Latin Salsa Queen, Ileana Aviles!  A vivacious celebration of life, the Salsa is sexy and fun.  Nothing will impress your significant other more than showing off your new passionate moves on the dance floor, and Ileana will be your guide.  We will also include a night out at the local dance club, The Tropicana, for some culture and serious Salsa dancing to put into practice your new moves!  Includes 2 drinks to loosen you up!
  • Local “Tapas” Cooking Classes (2 days – 1½  hour classes) Cook Like a Tico!
“Pura Vida” means “Pure Life,” and the local Ticos embrace this philosophy in every aspect of living.  Their cuisine is also a celebration, both its preparation and its enjoyment.  Now, you can learn to cook delicious, exotic “Tapas”dishes just like a Tico. At the end of each class you get to devour what you cook!
  • Olive Ridley Sea Turtles Nesting Grounds
The mystery of the nesting sea turtles is one of nature’s miracles.  Lasting from 2 to 8 days, an “Arribadas” draws thousands of female turtles from the ocean to lay their eggs on the beaches of Ostional.  Witness their spectacular arrival to their sandy nests, and watch as the newborn hatchlings return to the ocean. The event occurs year-around about once a month, but the best viewing takes place between July and November. You can see them in the early morning or at dusk, but we prefer dusk and we’ll bring a picnic basket with some “Pupus” (wine, cheese, and other goodies).
  • Guaitile Ceramics Tour (Full day w/ lunch)
Discover the tradition of ceramic works as developed by the Chorotegan Indians more than 5,000 years ago.  One of the best art centers in the country, Guaitil is a small community between Santa Cruz and Nicoya. Guaitil is also home to the last descendants of the Mayans in Costa Rica.  Proud of their heritage, they have protected much of their culture, especially their ceramic art.  As their ancestors did thousands of years ago, watch as they hand shape mud into pottery painted with natural soil colors.  Also, your visit to Santa Cruz will be an opportunity to indulge local culture as it is the folklore capital of Costa Rica.
  • Sustainable Coffee Plantation tour (Full day)
Explore the historic traditions of coffee making in Hojancha.  Visit the coffee fields and the plant where coffee production takes place.  Learn about the processes used to produce Guanacaste’s finest organic coffee, and taste the exquisite Café Diria.  You will also learn about the indigenous culture, area coffee production, and economic and environmental development.
